Apple macOS:  'Support Ending for Intel Based Apps' message

Article ID: 2027031                      Last updated:  27 May 2026

AccountEdge customers may receive a system notification from Apple:

Support Ending for Intel Based Apps

What is this message?

This is an Apple-generated alert related to the future removal of Rosetta from macOS.

For reference, you can read Apple's official guidance here:

What is Rosetta?

Rosetta is a background technology provided by Apple that allows software built for older Intel-based Mac computers to run on newer Apple Silicon Macs.  When Apple transitioned from Intel processors to Apple Silicon in 2020, Rosetta was introduced to give users and developers time to update their software.

Apple has now confirmed that Rosetta will remain available throughout the next macOS 27, however starting with macOS 28 (from late 2027), Rosetta support will be significantly restricted and will no longer support general applications.

How does this affect AccountEdge?

AccountEdge currently runs within CodeWeaver's CrossOver environment, which enables AccountEdge to operate on both Intel and Apple Silicon Mac computers.  CrossOver currently relies on Rosetta, which is why Apple's alert is being displayed.

This affects all AccountEdge products globally, not just the UK version.

What action do you need to take right now?

None.  You can safely dismiss this message for the time being.  AccountEdge will continue to function normally on macOS 26 and the next macOS 27.

What is being done to address this?

The AccountEdge development team in the USA has been working closely with CodeWeavers since AccountEdge Pro and AccountEdge NE were first implemented in 2021.  CodeWeavers has informed the team that they are making good progress on a new version of CrossOver that will support an ARM64-based Windows environment, removing the dependency on Rosetta entirely.

Once that build is ready for testing, the AccountEdge development team will carry out full compatibility testing in preparation for macOS 28 support.

What might change in future versions?

When the transition to the new CrossOver version takes place, it is likely that newer versions of AccountEdge will only be supported on Apple Silicon Mac computers.  Support for Intel-based Mac computers may be discontinued for new releases of AccountEdge at that point.

We anticipate having more clarity on timelines early next year.

We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
